HELLO

A Letter to Myself

Dear future me,

Starting with hello,
I hope you’re not at a low,
The age twenty five,
I wonder how you survived.

Thousands of taunting thoughts,
Dozens of forget-me-nots,
Surging streams of memories,
How do I even begin?

Have you graduated from university?
Have you experienced any romantic relationships?
Are you still keeping contact with your friends?
Are you still terrified of horror movies?

A plethora of questions,
Yet limited space for genuine expressions,
Along the passage of time,
I wonder how high have you climbed?

Ten years ago,
You were struggling with school,
Heaps of assignments overwhelming your existence,
Thousands of trivial and inane thoughts,
An overabundance of responsibilities,
Simply too much to list down.

Fast forward ten years,
In a blink of an eye,
You are already twenty five,
Making an honest statement,
I personally wonder how those ten years went by.

Did you have fun?
Did you manage to live life to the fullest?
How did your IGCSE and IBDP examinations go?
How did you spend all your 87600 hours?

To be brutally honest, I don’t know how I’m going to make it out alive from high school and university but I guess if you’re reading this letter, everything went fine; I presume? It terrifies me and sends cold chills down my spine every single time I think about the future. What lies ahead of me is a blank sheet of paper and anything could occur in a mere span of ten years. I could be married, bankrupt, jobless or even potentially homeless! The future is bottomless void of endless possibilities and even one decision could change a person’s life for eternity. Without a shadow of doubt, the future is a scary thing but I realise that everyone has to face life’s harsh ordeals in order to move forward.

“The past is behind, learn from it. The future is ahead, prepare for it. The present is here, live it.”

Yours truly,

Fifteen year old you.
