HELLO

WOTM: Audrey Hepburn

A little bit of Hepburn in all of us | A Classic Personality for the Modern Girl.

"I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles."
- Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn, a star since 1948 until the late 1980’s, is not only a very talented would-be prima ballerina but a wonderful screen star that many see as an inspiring role model even for our modern times. A part of Audrey’s quote "I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong" is timeless. Today with its multi-dimensional challenges facing young girls from gender inequality to peer pressure, bullying, role discrimination and much more can take heart to learning how Hepburn overcame them in her time.

Hepburn also manages to frame for us in her own witty style how a girl should be. She tells us she believesrather than ‘likes’ pink. This tells us that it's not a conviction and not just to fancy a colour but it's a foundation of a character.

Audrey reminds us in keeping a positive mindset with her upbeat remark, I believe (conviction and not just an opinion) that happy girls are the prettiest girls”Yes that word ‘Happy’ defines Hepburn. She is a happy soul that believes laughing is the best calorie burner. This to me is her most ‘classy and classical’ pronouncement on hope; “I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles”.

A miracle can be as great as something that happened out of nothing like what the religious books tell us or it can be simply the pleasant outcome of doing good and right against all odds. Audrey Hepburn showed us through her many films such as the Roman Holiday, Sabrina, Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and as the unforgettable Eliza Doolitle in My Fair Lady; that a woman’s potential to succeed and surviving in a man's world, to be transformed from an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan is that ‘miracle’ of belief in ones self.

The odds that Hepburn faced and overcame in her many movie roles can be summed up in ‘My Fair Lady’ where opportunity of a flower girl to be transformed with education to a lady. If I may add, just like CILC where the true legacy and Hepburn’s miracle lies - education is the key to unlock a lady’s full potential.

Yes Audrey Hepburn, you indeed are a miracle.
