Bucket List: Summer Edition

In the modern age today, teenagers tend to grow lazy and spend their summer days sleeping and surfing the net. So this summer, why not challenge yourself to our specially made summer bucket list? Have fun!

1. Read a Book
No, this is not a joke. Reading for an assignment and reading out of interest in relaxation are two different impressions, despite what most would dread. If you don’t ever give reading a try, you may miss the privilege of developing an interest towards this pastime. If reading really bores the life out of you, then start with something that appeals most to you first. Try out different book genres until you find one where you will feel that you cannot peel your eyes off it. You never know what alternate universe you might come across in between those pages.

2.   Sunbathing
We are sure some of you saw this one coming your way. Sunbathing is a calming activity which definitely cannot be forgone during the summer. This is the season when the Sun works at its peak, so it is clear to witness people getting themselves tanned whilst enjoying the salty ocean breeze. Tanning is a form of skin darkening under the exposure of sunlight. By sunbathing, our complexion becomes more radiant, thus enhancing our natural beauty.

3.  Camping
Not too keen upon this idea? Well, camping is actually a popular activity in which most individuals accomplish during this tropical climate. If you are new and inexperienced towards this pastime, do not worry! Here, we will help you to outline some important things to take account for when planning a camping trip. The main focus includes choosing a suitable camp site, planning your activities carefully, and bringing sufficient supplies to the trip. Regarding the latter, avoid overpacking. While camping, it is also a tradition to have a campfire at night and spend time with close family and friends, stargazing under the beautiful night sky. Doesn’t seem too aggressive now, does it?

4.  Have a Picnic
Picnic with your loved ones can also be a relaxing yet fun way to enjoy the season. Devouring packed snacks, laying under a shady tree and having a good laugh is always a perfect ad for the summer. Let go of the post-exam stress with some needed quality time and take in the summer serenity. Enjoy the moment, cherish the ambience.

5.  Venture into the Sport of Paddle Boating
If you are looking for a way to play with the waters without having to lose too much of your energy, try paddle boating. Paddle boating is an enjoyable activity to be carried out on hot days. Funnily enough, it does not require much energy. You will get to enjoy the exquisite scenery of mother nature and unwind without any disturbance. Needless to say, this is a perfect activity to attempt this summer.

6. Organise a Sleepover
Summer is the perfect season to organise a sleepover with your friends and it is a definite must-do for girls. It is relatively simple to organise a sleepover and here are a few steps to guide you through the way: decide on a good date, choose a clique of close friends, invite them over to your house, make sure you are well-supplied with snacks and mattresses, choose a good movie, sit back, relax and most importantly, have fun! What better way to catch up on each other’s lives than this, and what better timing than now.

7.  Go Travelling
Over the span of the whole summer holiday, there will be many opportunities for you to go travelling. Travelling is a healthy activity which enables you to widen your horizons and hence gaining unforgettable experiences and knowledge about different cultures. It doesn’t matter if you will be travelling domestically or internationally. As long as you grab the chance to embark on a journey outside of your comfort zone, you are on the right track.

8.  Learn a New Language

The pursuit of knowledge knows no age; one can never truly stop learning. This summer, take up the challenge of mastering a new foreign language. Now is when the internet is put to good use. You can start by choosing a language you are interested in and watch language tutorials. Learn some easy general terms first before advancing into more complex words or sentences. By learning a new language, your understanding of linguistics will naturally increase. Also, it gives you the chance to converse with people of an ethnicity different to yours.

9.  Lend a Helping Hand

In the midst of celebrating this holiday, it is also important to lend a helping hand to those in need. We strongly recommend you to participate in charity work as a constant reminder to stay humble. Looking around us, we seem to take too many things for granted. Fortunately, there is an increasing number of giant donation boxes conveniently placed on the side of the neighbourhood streets nowadays. So why not donate that one item that may look small in your eyes, and see just how big of a difference it could make to someone.

10.  Spring Cleaning
I know that most of us groan even at the sheer thought of cleaning our rooms. However, this activity is not as horrible as we make it to be, entertaining even. How so? Well, for once, you get to reorganise the structure of your room and make sure that your belongings are placed accordingly. Furthermore, the fun part comes when you stumble across old items which were hidden in the depths of your room all along. Fiddling with these pieces will bring back nostalgic memories from when you could barely understand how or why it happened. Lastly, the satisfaction you feel when your room is at its tidiest is certainly worth the hassle.

11.  Go to a Theme Park
To end our list with a bang, we have decided to include this one into the checklist. How else would you rather spend your summer holiday, than going to a theme park? Nothing tops the pleasure of being able to spend a day at the theme park. Go ahead and let your adrenaline pump through as you go on the thrilling roller coasters and other attractions the theme park has to offer. A little fun wouldn’t hurt anybody.
