Snacks For the Soul

Admit it, we all have rummaged through the refrigerator for a good ol' snack during tense occasions, at one point. How about you go a little different this time, and create your own snack that not only tastes good, but also fine for the body? Here are some healthy snacks that will surely boost you up to face whatever obstacles you are struggling with.

1. Chocolate-Blueberry Shake
This is one of the most chocolaty and velvety yet surprisingly healthy drinks out there. Blend in your favorite chocolate breakfast powder with 1 1/2 cups of fresh milk of choice, and 1 cup of frozen blueberries for the desired taste. This drink can aid your bad mood but can also be transformed into a protein shake by adding protein powder!

2. Fruit Parfait
Ah yes, the fruit parfait, originating from the city of love, Paris, is a favorite breakfast food for many. “Parfait”, translates to perfect in French and you can expect no less from this sweet treat. Layered together is: 1 cup plain low-fat yogurt sweetened with 1 teaspoon of honey,  ½ cup granola, and add ½ cup frozen and fresh blueberries and strawberries, for a refreshing finale. Enjoy!

3. Crackers with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread and Banana
Smear a chocolate-hazelnut spread (yes, Nutella is acceptable!), on two crispy bread crackers. Make sure that they are evenly spread so that the chocolate taste will blend in right with the crackers. For the finishing touch, add 3 slices of banana for a flavor which is bound to be subdued and sweet.

4. Vegan Breakfast Scramble
Best cooked in a frying pan of medium-high heat, integrate a ½ cup of crumbled tofu, a handful of spinach, ¼ cup chopped up red peppers, 1/8 cup chopped onion, 1/8 cup chopped vegetarian bacon, and a few dashes of paprika for that spicy edge. Sauté until all the tofu and vegetables a heated and cooked through. Don’t forget to season with salt and pepper to taste!

5. Oatmeal in an Instant
Skipping the pre-made packets for a homemade version would be the best choice. With a combination of ½ cup rolled oats, 1 cup milk or water based on your preference, a pinch of salt, makes a delicious bowl of oatmeal. Just stir in toppings which appeal to you, such as a table spoon of smooth maple syrup or some sliced almonds for a favored flavor and microwave for 3 minutes.

6.Hawaiian Wrap
One of the most zesty and savoury wraps out there. This wrap is a combination of  ¼ cup nonfat Greek yogurt, 1 tbsp. white wine vinegar, and ½ tsp. caraway seeds in a small bowl. Toss together ¼ cup diced pineapple ( for a very sweet and juicy, but have a tartness to them) ½ carrot (shredded), and ¼ head thinly sliced cabbage. Dress the vegetables with the
creamy yogurt mixture and roll up in a whole-wheat wrap.

7. Breakfast Taco
Coming from the rich city of Mexico, is the perfect breakfast taco. In a pan spritzed with cooking spray over medium-high heat, scramble 3 egg whites, some spinach leaves, and 1 tablespoon of drained and rinsed black beans. Wrap it up with an 8-inch whole-wheat tortilla and top with 1 tablespoon of salsa. This is dish completed with a seasoning of salt and pepper.

8.Quinoa Salad
For a healthy and refreshing salad, microwave ½ cup quinoa  and 1 cup water for 5 minutes at full power. 10. Berry Yogurt Smoothie
Greek Yoghurt is the favourable choice to use as it is richer and creamier, compared to the traditional yogurts.
